Pixel pitch is the distance, in millimetres, from the centre of one LED pixel to the centre of the next. A P2.5 screen has pixels 2.5 mm apart. A P6 screen has them 6 mm apart.
Smaller pitch, sharper picture
Closer pixels mean more pixels in every square metre. P2.5 packs about 160,000 pixels per square metre; P6 packs about 28,000. More pixels give finer detail and smaller readable text, and they also cost more.
Match the pitch to the viewing distance
A common rule of thumb is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is about the same number as the pitch in millimetres. A P2.5 screen looks good from around 2.5 m. A P6 screen suits viewers 6 m or more away, such as a hoarding on a road.
Paying for a finer pitch than your viewers can see is wasted money. Choosing a pitch that is too coarse makes close-up viewers see the individual dots.
How to choose
Work out where most people will stand, pick the smallest pitch that looks clean from that distance, then check the price. Our finder and configurator do this arithmetic for you.
